The California Department of Education (CDE) conducts IEP Implementation Monitoring to meet its federal monitoring responsibilities and to determine whether special education services written in students’ Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) are being delivered as required.
This monitoring includes:
Monitoring Period: January 1 – February 27
During this time, LEAs track the delivery of IEP services.
Portal Access and Student Selection:
On March 2, CDE will provide access codes to the IEP Implementation Monitoring portal to SELPAs. Once received, SELPAs will distribute each LEA’s access code.
The portal will list the randomly selected students identified for IEP Implementation Monitoring.
Data Collection Period: March 2 – May 15
LEAs collect and calculate data on the percentage of IEP services delivered for the selected students.
To support this process, SELPA has created a spreadsheet tool that LEAs can use to enter:
The spreadsheet automatically calculates the IEP implementation percentage for you.
Certification Deadline: May 15
By this date, LEAs must report and certify the aggregate percentage of IEP services delivered through the CDE online reporting portal.
